WHAT IS AN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL?
Emotional support animals (ESA) are companion animals that provide emotional support to an individual with a psychological diagnosis (diagnostic criteria of DSM V). ESA's do not require specific training to perform specific tasks and are NOT considered service animals. ESA's are defined and protects by the Federal Fair Housing Act. Some airlines allow accomodations for ESA's and some do not. Emotional support animals can be dogs, cats, or any other animal that provide emotional support to their owner.
